Lundie Castle House

Lundie Castle House

Scotland

Jools and Brian Drinkhall's home, five miles east of Dundee in gently rolling countryside, was built on the site of Lundie Castle. All that remains of the castle now are its outlines in the grass in their garden, but you can see why a castle was built here; it's on a hill with views up and down the valley and across to the Sidlaw Hills.

Lundie Castle was built in the late 1400's. Its last and most famous owner was Admiral Duncan who led, and won, the sea battle of Camperdown in 1797. He became the Earl of Camperdown and built a new house closer to Dundee. Soon after the stone from the old castle was taken down and used to built Lundie Castle House.

Jools and Brian welcome guests for bed and breakfast, and, if you like, dinner. They have two guest bedrooms, both with pretty views of the garden and countryside, and both with their own bathrooms.

Lundie Castle House is a good base for touring central Scotland, exploring the castles and historic houses in Angus and Fife, and for excursions to the Highlands. Stirling and Edinburgh are within 60 minutes drive, and Perth only 20 minutes. Also, some of Scotland's best golf courses are within easy reach, including St Andrews and Carnoustie.

Jools is an Antiquarian Print and Antiques dealer. She has a shop at the Scottish Arts and Antiques Centre at Abernyte a few miles away, so if you're hunting for Scottish antiques, or old maps and prints of Scotland (easy to pack in your suitcase...) just ask!
