The Royal at Tighnabruaich (on the left in the photograph above) is a stylish and friendly 11 bedroom hotel on the water's edge in the village of Tighnabruaich (pronounced ti-na-brui) about 1.5 hours West of Glasgow in one of Scotland's most beautiful landscapes of sea, islands and deserted peninsulars.
This is a wonderful place to stay; the climate is mild, there are views across the Kyles to an almost unpopulated coastline on the Island of Bute. It is quiet because there is little traffic, and the hotel has an established reputation for excellent food. See the second page about Dining at The Royal at Tighnabruaich
Guests can choose between the romantic dining room The Crustacean and the lively brasserie The Deck, and many also find themselves enjoying the hotel's Shinty Bar - popular with the locals. Breakfast at The Royal at Tighnabruaich is also a treat. Yachts have been known to use the hotels moorings just to come ashore for the special breakfast of scallops, bacon and champagne!
You can arrive by yacht - the hotel has its own pontoon - but the drive to the hotel is also one of the most spectacular in Scotland. The last stretch, which skirts the east of the Cowal Peninsula before dropping down to the village, is a newly-built road with frequent 'passing-places' and view-points overlooking the Kyles of Bute. So we advise leaving a bit more time to stop to get a real sense of this magical landscape.
