The Crusoe Apartment
Lower Largo
Fife
Scotland

Sleeping 5

Lower Largo is a pretty little fishing village in the delightful East Neuk of Fife, only 13 miles from historic St Andrews. Alexander Selkirk, the original Robinson Crusoe, was born here and visitors now have a wonderful opportunity to stay in a cottage on the very site of his birthplace – the Crusoe apartment.

As the son of a lowly shoemaker and tanner, Selkirk would certainly have difficulty recognising his former home in the cottage now beautifully refurbished to meet the highest standards of modern living.

The Crusoe Apartment

The cottage occupies the first and second floors of the house but is completely independent and has its own entrance. The lower floor houses an L-shaped living room with separate sitting and dining areas, a well-appointed modern kitchen, and a single bedroom and shower room. Velux windows on the second floor bring light flooding in to a double bedroom, a twin bedroom, and a bathroom. The accommodation is thus practical as well as smart. The central heating is gas, the dining area has a stove and there is a heat recovery ventilation system. From the upper windows there are superb sea views and at the back of the house there is a shared garden with a picnic table.

Parking is free on the street outside or in a car park 200m away. The apartment is only a minute’s stroll from the sandy beach and you will find quite a few little shops and eating places in the village. This makes it an ideal place for a traditional family seaside holiday. It is ideal for golfers, too, as Fife claims to be the home of golf. Apart from famous St Andrews, practically every small village has its own very good golf course. The Lundin Links course is the practice ground for the Open when it is at St Andrews and it is quite close by.

There are many other interesting places to visit: Scotland’s Secret Bunker near Anstruther is an intriguing reminder of the Cold War; Kellie Castle has lovely gardens; inland, pretty Falkland village is home to Falkland Palace; Elie offers boat trips into the Forth to visit the seabird colonies on the Isle of May and Craigtoun Park, near St Andrews, has lots of activities and attractions.

If you are missing the big city just hop on the train to Edinburgh at Kirkcaldy further along the coast and leave the car behind. There is no reason for anyone to be bored at the Crusoe Apartment.

Bed linen, towels, gas CH and electricity are all included!included in the rental. Sorry pets are not accepted and smoking is not permitted within the apartment. Special rates will apply for the period of the Golf Open at St Andrews.
