Crieff is a very pleasant little town nestling beneath its local hill, The Knock, in the heart of the lovely Strathearn countryside about 18 miles west of Perth. Dornock Bothy stands on Dornock Farm about two miles south of Crieff in a quiet and secluded location at the end of a private drive off a country lane.
A beautiful conversion of a former stone-built farm building, the Bothy now enjoys its own enclosed patio garden (furniture) and ample parking space. The inside has been furnished in a most attractive and comfortable style with all-weather cosiness ensured by oil central heating. The spacious living room boasts a lovely old open fire/range, the kitchen is trim, bright and well-appointed and a charming double bedroom and bathroom complete the accommodation – all designed as the perfect hideaway for a quiet holiday for two. From the back of the house the views out over the countryside are magnificent.
Crieff is a bustling holiday destination. The Hydro Hotel has riding stables, there is an excellent golf course, a large park, the McCrosty Park, plus a wide selection of small shops and eateries, and last but not least the Glenturret distillery. Visitors in search of more serious shopping, concerts, theatres and leisure centres will find them in Perth less than half an hour away by car or there are frequent buses. St Andrews is 40 minutes further on from Perth.
If you head off in an easterly direction, turn left at Gilmerton and discover the spectacular scenic route which runs through the Sma' Glen (great for picnics by the river) to Aberfeldy, Loch Tay and the mighty Lochs Tummel and Rannoch.
On the other hand, if you head west you can reach Oban and the West Coast in less than two hours. However, you would be ill-advised to rush and miss some of the attractions en route. Loch Earn is well-known for its watersports while its more peaceful southern shore is another great picnic place. Before reaching Loch Earn take the turn-off at Comrie(6m) and visit Glen Lednock. The route west has plenty of tempting hills for walkers and climbers although they may choose to start off with the local Munro, Ben Chonzie, just outside Crieff. The country roads around the town are flatter and have little traffic so hold a great appeal for cyclists.
No matter where you go or what you do, Dornock Bothy will be a cosy and comfortable home to come back to at the end of the day.
