Dowies Mill Apartment
& Dowies Mill Studio
Cramond
Edinburgh
Sleeping 2(4) and 2(3)
Like many large cities, Edinburgh has spread to encompass what were once quiet, rural villages, some of which, even today, have managed to retain their old world charm. One of the most attractive of these is the ancient village of Cramond, which sits on the Firth of Forth, leafy, peaceful and full of atmosphere. So ancient is the settlement here, that quite recently a Roman artefact was even found just in the harbour. Yet with all its peace, there is a regular city bus service into town, so you can happily leave the car without having to consider the problems of parking in the city centre.
Cramond is where the River Almond flows into the Firth. On the banks of the river, in a quiet lane which leads only to some picturesque riverside walks, sits Dowies Mill, an old stone mid terrace cottage (circa 1690). This is divided into two parts, both of which offer delightful and beautifully refurbished holiday accommodation..
Within a short walk is the waterfront with pub and bistro. Two minutes upstream is a historic bridge and another pub. It really is a most delightful location and there is parking at the door.
If you don't want to spend every day in the city or touring, there are golf courses, swimming pools and other attractions close by. A few minutes' drive will have you on the Queensferry Road, across the Forth Bridge, and on the motorway heading north or west to Fife, Perthshire, the Highlands, Stirling and the Trossachs, all of which are easily accessible for an enjoyable day trip.
Special rates will apply for Festival and New Year periods at both properties.
