The Old Schoolhouse
Near Achiltibuie
West Coast of Scotland
Sleeps 5
The Old Schoolhouse is situated just 200 yards from the sea with a dramatic backdrop of mountains, about 4 miles from the village of Achiltibuie (shops, petrol, famous Summer Isles hotel/restaurant) which lies north-west of Ullapool.
The house stands detached and south facing with views across to the Summer Isles and Dundonell Mountains. It is an old Victorian stone-built house surrounded by a garden in which many fine azaleas and rhododendrons flourish. Inside, the house is furnished and equipped to a high standard. There are small ponds in the garden so children must be supervised.
This is a delightful and tranquil place from which to discover the mountains, lochs, beaches and moorlands of this isolated and beautiful region of Scotland. It is possible to see whales, seals, deer and even golden eagles in their natural habitat, while from the sun-room you can enjoy the garden and trying to spot the many seabirds. What is now a comfortable sitting-room was once the schoolroom to which in the 'good old days' children had to walk between 2 and 4 miles in each direction along the coast to get their education.
Oil central-heating, fuel, electricity, bed-linen and towels are all
included. Pets are usually welcome by prior arrangement. Sorry, no smoking is allowed in the cottage.
