Willow Cottage

Willow Cottage
near Insch
Aberdeenshire

Sleeping 2/3

Willow Cottage started life as a traditional Scottish stone-built bothy, and has now been cleverly converted to become a snug and cosy holiday hideaway for two people, with no sacrifice of its old world charm.

Willow Cottage garden It stands close to, but detached from the farmhouse on a working organic farm in the peaceful countryside of Aberdeenshire in the north east of Scotland. The farm also produces willow for basket making, which is, of course, how the cottage got its name. It has its own secluded garden (furniture), and is on the edge of a pretty wood, which in spring is carpeted with bluebells. On its other sides there are wide vistas of the surrounding landscape.

Inside, the living area is comfortable and open-plan, and there is a downstairs Shower room/wc with flush to floor shower. Upstairs there is a double or twin bedroom which can be arranged as guests wish. It has steeply coombed ceilings - all part of the character, though tall guests may need to mind their heads on rising!

Willow Cottage view The area is easily accessible and has much to tempt the visitor. There are lovely walks round about, through the Clashindarroch Forest, for example, or on the surrounding heathery hills, which can be reached frm the cottage without use of the car. The nearest peak of any size is Bennachie, just below Insch (4m). Cycling is also a very viable option in this gently rolling countryside. The National Trust properties of Leith Hall (with beautiful gardens) and Fyvie Castle are within a few miles (all part of the Castle Trail, for the area abounds in them!), or head west to Dufftown (24m) where you can join the Whisky Trail. It is just 28 miles to the Moray coast, with its quaint fishing villages and lovely, quiet, sandy beaches.

There are shops and a coffee shop/restaurant one mile away and more shops, pubs, a restaurant, sports centre and golf course 4 miles away at Insch, where there is also a railway station. Colpy, one mile away, is on a major bus route which includes Aberdeen airport. The Granite City of Aberdeen is 25 miles to the south east.

Heating is by electric convector heaters (included!included). Bed linen and towels are included!included. There is a camp bed available for hire. Well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Sorry, no smokers.
