Wollrig Cottage is located in a sheltered position in the high hills above the small village of Ashkirk (pub) between Galashiels and Hawick in the Scottish Borders. Traditionally built and standing in its own enclosed and sloping gardens (furniture), it looks like something out of a fairy tale with a little stream tinkling under an old-fashioned humpback bridge.

The inside has the same story-book character with a cosy sitting room, comfortable chairs and an open fire. There is a spacious farmhouse-style kitchen/diner and upstairs, two attractive bedrooms, one ensuite. Oil CH and double glazing keeps the house as warm as toast.

In its convenient location close to the main A7 Carlisle-Edinburgh trunk road, Wollrig Cottage makes a perfect base for discovering this lovely area. There are splendid walks to take right from the door or, if you prefer four legs to two, try the riding stables at the bottom of the hill in Ashkirk. If following little white balls is your bag then visit the first-class golf course at the Woll, about a mile away, or any one of the many courses all within a 5 mile radius. You can fish at Clerklands fly fishery (4m) or in the local lochs (by permit). There is a leisure centre and cashmere outlets in Hawick (8m, all facilities) while Galashiels (11m) has a cinema. Selkirk (5m) has the nearest shops, tennis courts etc.

This area has a turbulent past and boasts many stately homes, keeps, castles and ruined abbeys, all open to the public. The Dawyck and Kailzie Gardens, near the delightful town of Peebles (25m), make for a pleasant excursion or you can head east to the coast and enjoy the fine beaches at Coldingham or Berwick. Even Edinburgh is only a little over an hour away by car.

Heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included. Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.
