The white door in the photograph (right) is the entrance to Gillian Glover's house in the centre of Robert Reid's neo-classical masterpiece, the north side of London Street, built in 1807 and inspired by Robert Adam's Charlotte Square. Gillian warmly welcomes guests to stay for bed and breakfast. She has three bedrooms (all are on the garden side of the house and so are quiet) each with a bathroom or shower-room en suite. There are lots of books to read, paintings, drawings and prints everywhere, and an air of relaxation. A convenient and congenial base from which to enjoy Edinburgh. George Street, Princes Street and the city centre are a 5 to 10 minute walk through more of Edinburgh's fine Georgian architecture. Gillian is Features Editor for The Scotsman, and also restaurant critic, so if you're wondering about that little place on the corner... look no further. |
