What other capital city has extinct volcanos and heathery wild craggy grassland right in its centre? And where else could you stay in the middle of a city where can you hear so little traffic that when the wild geese land outside you can hear them grazing? Edinburgh is unique in having this area of wilderness right in its centre, and journalist/broadcaster Lesley Riddoch's apartment is on the edge of it. From the window you can see Salisbury Craggs and Arthur's Seat (left) (the walk to the top takes 25 minutes) and the wide open public space in front used to be Mary Queen of Scots' hunting park. The Palace of Holyrood House is virtually next door, and from there you are on the Royal Mile which leads up to Edinburgh Castle. Supermarket, take-aways and provision shops are all nearby. This is very much Lesley's home from home, used by her as much as by her guests; snug and cozy it's ideal for two people self catering. |
