Stewart and Maggie offer an especially warm welcome to their home in Craigellachie, an ideal location from which to spend a few days exploring the castles, whiskey distilleries, abbeys and countryside of this part of the Highlands of Scotland. Their traditional house overlooks the River Spey (and has steps from the garden down to the Speyside Way, a walkers' trail along the river Spey), and the wooden hall (above;) on the side is their Gallery, The Green Hall Gallery, where they exhibit hundreds of prints, watercolours, and oil paintings; all their own work (...more about the Gallery at the bottom of this page). The small village of Craigellachie is one of the prettiest in Scotland. Spanning the river below is the remarkable iron bridge built by Telford in 1814. This area is the heart of the Malt Whisky Trail, and concentrated within a few miles are more distilleries than any other area in Scotland, many of them open to visitors. Stewart is a member of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society! |

A few minutes walk from the Green Hall Gallery, and over the narrow stone bridge across the Water of Fiddich is one of Scotland's genuinely unspoilt traditional village pubs, The Fiddichside Inn. Also close by are the Highlander Inn and Craigellachie Hotel both of which serve evening meals. Stewart and Maggie are always very happy to help find good places to eat, and advise on places to visit. For instance, on the other side of the river is the Macallan distillery (regarded by many as the Rolls Royce of malts). Also nearby is Cragganmore distillery (open June to September).

As well as touring the area by car, there are wonderful walks and many places to visit on foot... or you can rent a bicycle. Maggie and Stewart recommend you try to stay for a few days, there's so much to see and do!

Breakfast:
One of the two breakfast tables.
Stewart cooks a full Scottish breakfast for you with smoked-back bacon, local sausages, free-range eggs, fresh mushrooms and tomatoes. We have fresh fish delivered twice a week, so if your visit coincides, he will order smoked Haddock to be cooked in milk. Although there is a range of various cereals, fresh fruit and Yoghurt, he will be delighted to make you pinhead porridge, soaking it overnight to bring out its best texture.
Your own Dualit toaster on the table ensures your own ready supply of fresh, hot toast.
A variety of Maggie's homemade jams and jellies from wild fruit (Bramble jelly, Crab-apple jelly and Raspberry jam) or Rhubarb and lavender from the garden are on the table and her own Seville Marmalade.
Douwe Egbert coffee from Holland is made freshly for you, and Nambarrie tea which suits the lovely Craigellachie water.
