A couple of hundred yards from the centre of Peebles and only a minute's walk from the River Tweed and the park which goes down to the water's edge, Lindores was built in 1895 by Dr Clement Gunn, author of Leaves from the Diary of a Country Doctor and friend of John Buchan the novelist. He met his wife while skating on Lindores Loch near Inchrye Abbey in Fife, and thus he named his house in Peebles Old Town.

Peebles itself has some of the best shops in the Borders and also lively cultural events at the Eastgate Theatre and Arts Centre. Only 45 drive south of Edinburgh, or 40 minutes from Edinburgh Airport, it is one of the best places to stay as a central base for exploring the beautiful Scottish Borders. Traquair House (the oldest continually inhabited house in Scotland), the magnificent gardens at Kailzie and Royal Botanic Garden at Dawyck, Neidpath Castle (open in the summer) and Glentress Forest (walking and mountain biking), all within a few miles.

Janice and Nigel Henderson welcome guests to stay for bed and breakfast, and have 5 guest rooms, including the large family room with a turret alcove which you can see on the right of the photograph above.
