"Deep in unspoilt country less than two hours from either Glasgow or
Edinburgh and within easy access of the M74..."
Deborah Galbraith's historic Edinburgh apartment at 19 Windsor Street has been with AboutScotland for many years and so we are very pleased to introduce her exciting new venture: the restoration of Jarbruck Lodge - a self catering cottage or rather house comfortably sleeping 6.
Forest tracks lead up to the hills behind the house and it is deep in unspoilt country (no near neighbour) surrounded by fields on a tiny back road near the conservation village of Moniaive. Historically interesting, it was the paymaster's house for a large estate - very Victorian in design with generous proportions. Everything within the house is restored or new and the finish is of the highest quality — Farrow and Ball paints, brass bedsteads, good mattresses, cotton sheets, open fires and woodburning stoves (complimenting oil-fired central heating) ; and in the garden a stone patio and BBQ area.
Ideal for a family or couples renting together, the house has two public rooms, two bathrooms and a large kitchen dining room.
The area is simply peaceful and beautiful. Probably around 45 minutes to the Solway coast, water sports are available on Loch Ken, there's a Red Kite Trail nearby, fantastic mountain biking in Forest of Ae and Dalbeatie Forest, walking on the Southern Upland Way, nearby Drumlanrig Castle and good fishing on the River Nith.
The village Moniaive is approximately two miles from the house and is pleasant walk or cycle. It has a well stocked grocery shop, a post office, a gift and craft shop and a choice of two village pubs.
