Engraving. Size; W.135 H.87 mm. Published 1832. This engraving by JMW Turner depicts the pause for lunch on the expedition to Dryburgh Abbey and Smailholm Tower undertaken at Sir Walter Scott's suggestion when Turner was staying with him at Abbotsford in July 1831.
In this view overlooking the River Tweed with the Eildon Hills on the left, you can just make out the Abbey of Melrose in the middle distance just to the left of centre, half in shadow, half lit by the afternoon sun.
