Restaurant:

All the food is cooked at home and there is a wonderful choice in this part of Scotland: locally produced lamb and beef, wild venison from the Great Glen, and exceptional seafood from Mallaig. Imogen and Ken are developing an organically-managed garden so they have the freshest ingredients with the best flavour. They also make their own ice-cream, desserts and scones, and bake their own bread. | |
EXAMPLE EVENING MENU: |
AboutScotland editor's comment: "We stayed and ate here on a summer's evening – the food was delicious and the atmosphere very relaxed and friendly. And we loved the view from the dining room." |
|
After dinner you can retire to the sitting room and sink into an arm chair in front of the log fire. Old Pines is all on one floor (no stairs to climb to bed!), and there are 8 rooms: family, single, twin and doubles, all with private bathrooms, most en suite. Children are welcome at Old Pines and there is a large garden with rope-swing and trampoline for them to explore. We have a selection of DVDs, books and games to keep them amused as well. |

Map of the area:
Old Pines is ideally situated as a base for exploring the West Highlands and Islands. Day trips can easily be made to Skye, Mull and Iona, Ardnamurchan, Oban, Arisaig and the Small Isles. Glen Coe, Aviemore, Loch Ness, Culloden, and Glen Affric are all just an hour or so away by car. Commandos used this wild area of moorland for training during WW2 - the Commando Monument (right) is just a mile away. Many activities can be pursued locally, including walking, fishing, skiing, climbing, golf or just pottering about discovering the history, culture and spectacular scenery of the area. Old Pines has bikes to lend, and boats can be hired locally. Sailing and other water sports are available on nearby Loch Oich. Or for a car-free holiday come by train to Spean Bridge - overnight sleeper direct from London Euston, up the beautiful West Highland line, and Imogen and Ken will meet the train - buses (300 meters) walking and cycling right from the door. |
