Kirkdale Estate Holiday Cottages

This beautiful part of South West Scotland has a mild climate with heather-covered hills, old woodlands with streams and rivers and green grasslands. There are plenty of places to walk and explore as well as a lot of attractions, from ancient monuments, standing stones and castles to a famous ice-cream maker and Chocolate Factory - plenty to keep children amused.

Deer are often seen undisturbed in the woods, and there are red squirrels and otters, and the beach is shingly, wild and unspoilt. Just inland the Galloway Forest Park has such rich starry dark skies that it is now Britain's only internationally recognised Dark Sky Reserve.

Each cottage has maps of the area along with leaflets about the many things to enjoy in Dumfries and Galloway, Kirkcudbrightshire, and the Solway Coast. Owner Kirsten Hannay, who lives nearby, has thought through all the practical details so you will feel very warmly welcomed.

Kirdkdale Port

See also Kirkdale Port, also sleeping 6, which is about 200 meters away to the West.

Situated just above the sea-shore with south facing views.

Sleeping 6

Hidden down a track through woodland, Kirkdale Bank is raised above the sea-shore with south-facing views from almost every window over the shimmering waters where the the Irish Sea meets the Solway Firth.

The front garden with sea views (and outdoor table and chairs) is fully enclosed, with more gardens to the side and back. There's a lockable shed for bikes - five of the world-renowned 7 Stanes Mountain Bike Trails are nearby.

Kirkdale Bank cottage is furnished and decorated to the same high standard at Kirkdale Port. Both sleep six and are perfect for families, but they are also often taken by just one or two people looking for solitude and quiet.

The rooms are comfortable and subtly decorated; harmonious with the ever-changing and very particular light of the place.
